ABOUT SCOTT DUPONT

Attorney Scott DuPont is a 7th generation native of Florida born and raised right here in our district.  As a result, he better understands the legal issues our communities face.

At the time his Father passed away at the age of 48, he had just flunked out of college.  After his Father passed away he went to Bible College in Dallas, Texas where he met his wife of 28-years now, Jackie.  In 2017 he and Jackie would go on to adopt their 1st child and later help Jackie’s Mother by having her move in when her husband passed.

After Bible College he attended Dallas Baptist University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Biblical Studies and graduated with honors.

From there he attended Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA where he earned his Law Degree and Master in Public Policy while attending night school because he worked full time for the university during the day doing maintenance and painting student housing.

He began his legal career as a prosecutor right here in our district and after 2-years he opened a very successful general law practice in Daytona Beach.

In 2010 he was encouraged to run for Circuit Judge by many in the legal community and in the public and ran a successful campaign.

While serving as Circuit Judge from 2011 until 2018 he brought the first 27-week Certified Batters Intervention course to an area of our district that had the highest rate of domestic violence in the State of Florida at one time.

He also created Truancy Court in an area of our district that had only a 52% high school graduation rate.  In 2021 that graduation rate had grown to 92%, and it currently stands at 88.5%.

He also created two Self-Help forms called “Prepping for Injunctions -101” and “Prepping for Baker/Marchman Acts – 101” to help litigants without attorneys in Domestic Violence, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse cases so they could better represent themselves in court by being better prepared.

He also established the first Unified Family Court in a county in our district that had never had it before.  This was better for families and children because it allowed one judge to oversee all of the family’s cases even though they were in different divisions.  It was also better for the taxpayers because it did not waste time and resources by having families re-litigate the same issues in front of different judges in different divisions.

More importantly, he was a good steward of the taxpayer’s time and money by creating highly efficient case management systems that cut the backlog of cases and reduced all of his divisions between 30%-70%.

In 2018 he was removed from the bench for some mistakes he made.  Rather than quitting, he took responsibility for his actions, humbled himself, went through the process, learned from his mistakes, and is now grateful it happened because of the valuable lessons he has learned.

Through the process he learned humility, he matured, he found his identity, and his faith grew.  More importantly, because he experienced firsthand what it was like to maneuver the court system, he now has an empathy for client’s that he has never had before.

During this process he and Jackie adopted their 1st child and he knew he couldn’t give up because he had someone watching his example.

Attorney DuPont currently runs a very successful general law practice called My DUI Guy, P.A., and he serves clients all over the state of Florida.  He continues to practice many of the areas of law he presided over as a judge.

Because of these life experiences, Attorney DuPont can better relate to litigants.  These life experiences have made him a better Husband, a better Father, a better Attorney, and he knows they will also make him a better Judge.  That’s why he is asking that you make him your next Circuit Court Judge!
